Q01 What's the difference between Type1 and Type2 services?
The Type1 service is provided over your existing analog telephone line. This service permits you to talk on the telephone and send or receive data at the same time.
The Type2 service requires a new analog telephone line, installed exclusively for ADSL.
You cannot make voice telephone calls on this new line, but you do not need to be an NTT subscriber to have it installed. (A new line must be installed except in special circumstances, such as having an existing line you used in the past, for instance.)

Q02 Are there any application programs that won't work with ADSL?
Router-type modem: Applications not enabled for NAT (NetMeeting, some features of IRC, and some online games) do not work with ADSL.

USB-type modem: No known incompatibilities.

* The above assumes you are using a modem supplied by Y!mobile (former eAccess).

Q03 How is the authentication ID set for PPP connection?
Router-type modem: When the modem establishes a PPP connection, it obtains the DNS information, which is then distributed to the PCs on the LAN by the DHCP function built into the modem.

USB-type modem: You use the Windows dial-up function to establish a PPP connection, and the PC obtains the DNS information.

* The above assumes you are using a modem supplied by Y!mobile (former eAccess).

Q04 Are there any types of equipment that won't work with ADSL?
- You cannot use ADSL if you have a PBX or key telephone system. ADSL signals cannot travel through these systems. To use ADSL, you will need to have your telephone system rewired to bypass such equipment, or you may opt for the Type2 service (new line).

- You may not be able to use ADSL if you have a security system or gas metering service operating on your telephone line. Such equipment interferes with the high frequency spectrum used by ADSL. Even without the interference risk, depending on where the security or gas metering equipment is installed, you will not be able to use ADSL if a splitter cannot be connected to the telephone line. Please consider applying for the Type2 ADSL service (new line).

- You can use an ACR adapter or other adapter from a telecom company with ADSL, provided the adapter can be installed between the splitter and your phone handset.

- ADSL is not possible if you have a door phone system or multiple phones on a single line. ADSL signals cannot go through these systems. Please consider applying for the Type2 service (new line).

* Please note that you will still be liable for all expenses if, subsequent to the day scheduled for the start of service, it becomes apparent that you have any of the above equipment installed, even if you cannot therefore use the ADSL service.

Q05 I live in a condominium (apartment building). Would there be any problem in using ADSL services?
Some large apartment buildings are connected by optical fiber to the NTT central office. Because ADSL technology is based on metallic cable, ADSL will not be available if your building is on a fiber-optic network.
The Type2 ADSL service is a possibility. However, depending on your apartment building, it may not be possible to install a new line. To make sure, please consult your building administrator.

Q06 Are there any restrictions on the computer operating system?
Router-type modem: No restrictions. You can use any platform that supports TCP/IP connection via Ethernet.

USB-type modem: Your computer must conform to the USB 1.1 standard. If your computer is pre-installed with Windows 98, or with an earlier version of Windows, it will probably only support USB 1.0, so the modem will not work.

* The above assumes you are using a modem supplied by Y!mobile (former eAccess).

Q07 Are there any NTT telephone services that won't work with the ADSL service?
ADSL cannot coexist on the same line with services that use high frequency spectrum, such as NTT's signal monitoring service and telemetry applications (non-ringing communication services).
  || TOP ||

Q08 How fast is ADSL?
The access speed varies depending on the line length and line quality from NTT central office to your premises, so there is no guarantee that you can connect at a maximum speed. To find out an approximate speed you can possibly obtain, click the following URL. (Only written in Japanese)
http://www.eaccess.net/apply/guide/index.html
  || TOP ||

Q09 Why is the maximum speed not always possible?
A number of factors affect the speed and quality of ADSL transmission. Among the causes of poor transmission speed are:

- The distance and line quality from the NTT central office to your premises. It is a fact that speed generally declines the farther you are from the central office.
- ISDN interference has a major impact.
- Degradation of the telephone wiring, or telephone wiring in close proximity to a coaxial cable for cable television
- Internet traffic congestion, depending on the time of day you access the Internet
- A neighboring power substation, high-voltage lines, or radio transmitter for broadcasting or communications can make ADSL transmission very unstable.

Q10 Does computer performance affect the access speed?
Computer performance affects how fast received data can be processed. So this can make a difference to access speeds in environments that are otherwise identical.

Q11 Will global IP address be assigned to my computer when I use eADSL service?
Dynamic Global IP address will be assigned to your rental modem, and the modem will be assigned private IP address to your computer.

Q12 What is Wireless LAN Option service?
Wireless LAN Option service provides your computer to connect to your ADSL modem without a cable. This service is not for Wireless LAN service like Hot Spot.
  || TOP ||

Q13 How can I register for Wireless LAN Option service?
[Lite Plan (1Mbps)] and [Plus Plan (12Mbps)]
In order to apply for Wireless LAN Option service, you need to upgrade from your current plan to either [Plus II Plan(24Mbps)] or [Plus Q Plan (40Mbps)].

[Plus II Plan (24Mbps)] , [Plus Q Plan (40Mbps)] , [47M Plan (47Mbps)] and [50M Plan (50Mbps)]
Please register "Wireless" , click here.

Q14 Is the current modem needed to be changed to use Wireless LAN Option service? Also, does it cost any additional charge to replace the current modem?
You will need to change your current modem if your modem type is not WD605CV. The modem type can be checked on the side of the modem.
In order to replace the modem, the handling fee (3,300yen will be charged. (excluding the customers using DR304CV.)
  || TOP ||

Q15 How much is the monthly fee for Wireless LAN Option service?
Additional fee is 748yen.
  || TOP ||

Q16 What is the model of the rental modem to use Wireless LAN Option Service.
WD605CV(ADSL Modem) and WL54AG(Wireless LAN Card for ADSL Modem) are provided. Besides that you must provide by yourself a Wireless LAN Card for your computer.
  || TOP ||

Q17 Is WL54AG will be included in the package of WD605CV?
Wl54AG is not included with the package of WD605CV. You need to register for Wireless LAN Option service separately.
  || TOP ||

Q18 To which specification does WL54AG conform.?
WL54AG conforms to IEEE802.11a/11b/11g specification.
  || TOP ||

Q19 Do I have to provide the Ethernet cable to connect with Wireless LAN Option service?
You do not have to provide an ethernet cable to connect to the Internet using Wireless LAN.
  || TOP ||

Q20 Can both Wired LAN and Wireless LAN be used at the same time?
Yes, you can. You can use both Wireless and Wired LAN at the same time.
  || TOP ||

Q21 Can I use any type of OS(Operating System)?
